The VIProject (Vulva Imprint Project) served as an artivist initiative I facilitated in Ontario, engaging numerous participants. Women were invited to create mono prints of their intimate parts by sitting on a plate filled with acrylic paint and imprinting their bodies on paper. This project aimed to empower women to explore and embrace their bodies and intimate parts.
As a clinical social worker specializing in sexual abuse, I've observed a phenomenon where women lack awareness of their intimate anatomy. Many describe their bodies as ugly or not good enough. Some go to extremes, waxing, bleaching, or undergoing plastic surgeries to conform to distorted ideals perpetuated by the porn industry. The project culminated in an exhibition at the You Me Gallery in Hamilton, curated by Brice Kanbara, where the artwork challenged societal norms. The press and news supported the exhibition, and proceeds from sales contributed to a center providing therapy for those who have experienced sexual abuse.
